Thread Veins

Thread veins, also known as spider veins, can occur anywhere on the body and take their name for their web-like appearance. Most visible in places such as the face and legs, these blue, red or purple veins emerge as a result of damaged veins or blood vessels and can be triggered by increased internal pressure or overexposure to the sun.

Thread veins often appear on the legs as a result of a weakened venous valve, something which then allows blood to pool and the veins to branch out in spider-esque patterns. Those that are present on the face are usually burst blood vessels and may be linked to alcoholism or common skin conditions such as rosacea.
