Acne
Acne is a disease of the skin issue affecting millions of people, particularly teenagers and sometimes adults, with around 95% of people being affected by acne at one time or another in their lives. It mainly affects women, with 35% of those between the age of 30 and 40 years. Acne Vulgaris being the most common type of acne.
Although there are many known triggers for acne, including hormones, dietary habits, exposure to harsh environments and side effects to other treatments. It is a condition which commonly occurs during puberty but can emerge at any age, with surplus sebum (oil), bacteria and dead skin cells contributing to a blockage of pores and the development of spots.
It can be a highly emotional problem for many, as the face is the main area affected by acne. Symptoms of acne can lead to stress and anxiety, negative self-image and low self-esteem.
