Age Spots
Otherwise known as sun spots or liver spots, age spots are flat marks of varying colour (grey, brown or black) found on several parts of the body. As one of their alternative names suggests, these blemishes often develop as a result of exposure and overexposure to the sun and other sources of UV light such as tanning beds, although their appearance can also be a very common side effect of ageing.
The changes visible in age spots can be attributed to the body’s overproduction of melanin, the natural pigment that controls the colour of the skin, hair and eyes, and these are most likely to appear on the face, shoulders, back, arms and hands.
