Teeth Grinding
Teeth Grinding, also known as Bruxism, is a condition that describes the unconscious grinding or clenching of the teeth. Bruxism can happen when you’re awake or when you’re asleep. Unlike awake bruxism, sleep bruxism is often considered a sleep-related disorder, and those who do grind their teeth whilst sleeping are likely to suffer from other sleep disorders such as snoring or sleep apnoea.
In severe cases, bruxism can occur more frequently which can lead to various jaw or dental problems, as well as trigger headaches and migraines – In this instance, an orthodontists opinion is recommended. Many doctors have linked bruxism to stress or anxiety, however certain lifestyle factors, like the use of recreational drugs or consuming too much caffeine can also exacerbate the condition.
