Excess Hair
Excess hair growth can have a lasting impact on the confidence and self-esteem of the women and men it affects. Abnormal and excessive hair growth in women is called hirsutism, this condition is normally defined by the growth of thick, dark hair on the face, neck, thighs, back, stomach or chest and usually develops due to an excess of male hormones.
Hirsutism is regularly (but not always) associated with polycystic ovary syndrome and can be managed by different hormone-regulating medications including the contraceptive pill. Excessive hair can also be triggered by certain medicines and is often a symptom of being overweight.
