Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis pilaris is a common skin condition also known as ‘chicken skin’ in which patches of small, coloured bumps appear on several different parts of the body. Often more likely to develop on areas such as the arms and the thighs, these bumps, which may be white, red or match the skin tone of the sufferer, are largely harmless but may cause significant discomfort.

Keratosis pilaris occurs when hair follicles become clogged by a natural substance known as keratin and can often be much worse in the winter.

Common in people with dry skin, eczema, ichthyosis, obesity, going through hormonal changes. Genetics also play a part if you have a Celtic ancestry.
